19 JULY 2009 Treasure Hunt Workshop at BIBF To Encourage Sustainable Consumption |
An environmental workshop on 'Sustainable Consumption' is being organized under the umbrella of the sixth annual Environmental Treasure Hunt, which is taking place under the patronage of H.H. Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Head of the Public Commission for the Protection of Marine Resources, Environment and Wildlife (the Commission).
The workshop will be led by Ms. Zainab Humaidan and Ms.Royaa Tariq, representing the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) certified Environmental Citizenship Program of Bahrain Women Association - for Human Development. It will convene at the region's premier provider of training, education and professional development: the Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance (BIBF) on Wednesday 22nd July 2009, from 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm. Admission to the event is free and open to the public.
"This workshop is directly in line with the Treasure Hunt theme for this year: Changing Behaviour Towards the Environment," noted Mrs. Zahraa Taher, Founder and CEO of Eventscom.
"The purpose of the workshop is to create a new mentality among Bahraini society-with an emphasis on the corporate sector-by prompting participants to be more mindful and aware of their consumption behaviour. Participants will be asking themselves questions such as 'What do I consume?' and 'What are the consequences of my consumption?' Sustainable consumption is not only about consuming less, but rather, more efficiently-it is smart consumption to sustain an elevated quality of life" The Workshop aims Towards New Sustainable Mentality and highlighting the role of individuals and the corporate in a collaboration that fills the gaps between the theory and the practice in work places and in day-to-day issues and to add positive impacts on the mother earth. Said Fatima Frutan Head of Environmental Citizenship Program.
"For corporations this means structuring a business to adopt sustainable consumption patterns in addition to changing the mentality of its employees-this reflects both economic efficiency and social responsibility. Our workshop host venue-the BIBF-provides an excellent example of a socially conscious professional institution which takes measures to reduce energy consumption, and encourages both its employees and students to apply more sustainable consumption behaviours to their daily lives.
"Ultimately, we are trying to promote sustainable consumption and production so that both consumers and producers integrate the principles of sustainability in their personal and professional decisions," Mrs. Taher concluded.
The sixth annual Environmental Treasure Hunt will take place in November 2009 under the theme "CHANGING BEHAVIOUR TOWARDS THE ENVIRONMENT" and is being organised by Eventscom with the support of the Commission and the Bahrain Women's Society.

Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Head of the Public Commission for the Protection of Marine Resources, Environment and Wildlife (the Commission).

The sixth annual Environmental Treasure Hunt will take place in November 6,2009 under the theme "CHANGING BEHAVIOUR TOWARDS THE ENVIRONMENT" and is being organised with the support of the Commission and the Bahrain Women's Society, which has introduced Wanees, an environmentally-friendly mascot for kids for the 2009 Environmental campaign.
Following the success of previous Environmental Treasure Hunts which raised awareness of various environmental issues such as pollution and desertification, EVENTSCOM has chosen to support the same cause but with a focus on changing people's behaviour towards the environment.
"In the past we have highlighted various environmental issues such as pollution, desertification and recycling. However, this year we have decided to emphasize changing the individual's behaviour towards the environment. By changing people's everyday habits and making them realize that one person's actions can make an impact, we can create a more sustainable clean and green Bahrain," commented Mrs. Taher.
Activities for the Treasure Hunt are specifically designed to steer people towards the path of a cleaner and greener Bahrain in fun and interactive ways. In previous years, a combined total of 800 bags of garbage were collected during beach clean-ups, and more than 40 trees were planted.
Mr. Hamad Saleh Bu-Sanad, Information Public Relations at the Commission, thanked EVENTSCOM for their initiative in organising the event once again, "I applaud EVENTSCOM for their dedication to corporate responsibility and the way they have consistently prioritized playing a role in national environmental awareness. They will always have the support of the Commission for this uniquely interactive and highly educational event."

"Like previous years, the challenges in the sixth annual Treasure Hunt will be mental or physical but they will be far from predictable! Teams who participated in previous years are in for a big surprise-this year will be totally different!" Mrs. Taher revealed.
"Furthermore, as part of the event's broad-based appeal, there will be a variety of supporting events leading up to the big day, all of which will be open to the public. Interesting workshops will be held comprising various activities such as a photography competition, a short film competition, a garage sale, and a fashion show, to name a few. Stay tuned!" Mrs. Taher concluded.

20 APRIL 2008 Young locals shine a light on Bahrain's environmental issues |
On Saturday 19 April 2008, the Gulf Hotel International Convention Centre played host to the 5th Annual Coca-Cola Environmental Treasure Hunt's Youth Workshop for 2008. The occasion brought together an enthused group of young locals equipped to wow an esteemed panel of judges, whom all hold the topic of environment close to heart. On the judging panel were CEO & Founder of Eventscom-Bahrain, Mrs Zahra'a Taher, Mr. Zakariya Khonji, Public Relations and Environment Media Head for the Commission, Shaikha Marwa bint Rashed Al-Khalifa, Director of the Crown Prince Training Program for Youth, Fatima Al A'ali, PAC Manager for Coca-Cola Middle East and Charnelle D Fortuin, Project Manager for Eventscom-Bahrain.
"The youth have always proved themselves to be free-thinkers and it is in our current time when Bahrain, and the world, is being overwhelmed by the threat of global warming and the devastation of the earth's resources, that we called upon their bold and out-of-the-box approach to amplify the issues related to environment." Commented Mrs Zahra'a Taher who initiated the annual Treasure Hunt concept and campaign in 2003 under the patronage of H.H. Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Head of the Commission.
One of four workshops forming part of the 5th Annual Coca-Cola Environmental Treasure Hunt Campaign with a strong focus on the community and the public, the youth workshop opened the floor to twenty-three teenagers representing the Crown Prince's Youth Training Programme to voice their opinions on eight pertinent topics: The Canyon, which discussed whether the natural area located in Sanad should be destroyed or converted into a national park; The Tree of Life, and whether this local treasure is worth preserving; Natural Habitats, such as the desert, the coast, and the sea, and whether our day-to-day lives are at risk through the contamination of these natural resources; Energy consumption, and how we can practically and economically conserve energy; Desertification, and its impact on Bahrain; Water Pollution; Water Resource Depletion, and the factors that are leading to the diminish supply of fresh water; and Land Pollution, and how increased mechanization, urbanization, pesticides and insecticides affect the environment.
Having formed mixed teams-each with their own creative signature-the teams vied for the coveted title of Winning Team by putting on a highly entertaining and educational presentation session through the use of digital presentations, video footage, dramatic acting, and props. Ultimately all the teams rose to the occasion as winners, but it was light-heartedly named Three Heels and a Converse Team, consisting of Sara Ayoob Mohammed Alketbi, Sami Abdulla Fairooz, Sajedah Fadhel Ahmed Alasfoor and Hafsa Mohammed Ali Abdulla, who went home with the trophy.
For further details on the Coca-Cola Environmental Treasure Hunt 2008 taking place on Friday 23 May, whereby teams will simultaneously be competing to solve clues, leading them along a pre-determined map route, please contact a representative at Eventscom on +973-17-226775.

13 MARCH 2008 Coca-Cola Treasure Hunt Allows the Youth to Get a Word in on Bahrain's Environmental Issues |
Organizers of the fifth annual Coca Cola Environmental Treasure Hunt, Eventscom-Bahrain, a leading Events Management consultancy, with the support of the Public Commission for the Protection of Marine Resources, Environment and Wildlife (the Commission), are organizing a stimulating and environmentally-educational Youth Workshop, in collaboration with the Crown Prince Training Program for Youth, which falls under the direction of Shaikha Marwa bint Rashed Al-Khalifa.
The Youth Workshop is one of countless supporting activities which aim to reach a diverse range of the general public, preceding the highly anticipated Treasure Hunt event, which is taking place on 25 April 2008, under the patronage of H.H. Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Head of the Commission.
"Following the success of the Spring Camp for kids which engages children on a much younger and less sophisticated level, it was only fitting that we target another key sector of the Bahraini population," commented Zahraa Taher, Eventscom Founder and CEO.
"Youth often have very profound opinions and ideas on a multitude of issues, and it is important to involve them and give them a sense of responsibility in shaping and affecting the community in which they live-particularly in environmental issues as they can make a tangible and very immediate difference," Shaikha Marwa bint Rashed Al-Khalifa added.
Participants in the Youth Workshop comprise representatives of the Crown Prince's Youth Training Programme, whereby teenagers between the ages of 16-17 will be grouped into mixed teams to combat specific ecological problems currently facing the Kingdom. At a briefing session they discussed eight pertinent topics: The Canyon, which discussed whether the natural area located in Sanad should be destroyed or converted into a national park; The Tree of Life, and whether this local treasure is worth preserving; Natural Habitats, such as the desert, the coast, and the sea, and whether our day-to-day lives are at risk through the contamination of these natural resources; Energy consumption, and how we can practically and economically conserve energy; Desertification, and its impact on Bahrain; Water Pollution; Water Resource Depletion, and the factors that are leading to the diminish supply of fresh water; and Land Pollution, and how increased mechanization, urbanization, pesticides and insecticides affect the environment.
Each team will be required to create a presentation in two separate formats: the first was to be a written document, and the second was to be presented in a format of the team's choosing, for example: a drama skit, an art form, a recorded music piece, an electronic or digital display, a dance piece, etc.
The second presentation format aims to stretch the teams' imagination, as well as assess the feasibility of the presented solutions. Both presentation formats will be presented to a judging panel on Saturday 19th April 2008, 10h00 - 14h30 at The Gulf Hotel International Convention Centre, followed by an announcement of the winners in a special ceremony.
The first Treasure Hunt in 2003 promoted road safety and driving ethics. Teams will simultaneously be competing to solve clues, leading them along a pre-determined map route to a wide spectrum of locations, whilst being monitored by Traffic Police to ensure adherence to driving laws and regulations. Under the patronage of H.H. Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Head of the Public Commission for the Protection of Marine Resources, Environment and Wildlife (the Commission),
Coca Cola, EVENTSCOM, a Bahrain-based leading Events Management consultancy and with the support of the commission, are gearing up for the fifth annual Coca Cola Environmental Treasure Hunt which will take place in May 2008.
Preparations are already underway for the event which aims to raise public awareness of such a worthy cause. Following the success of previous Environmental Treasure Hunts which raised awareness of environmental issues, the Company has chosen to support the same cause but with a different focus: a "Greener Bahrain".
Activities for this event are designed to steer people towards the path of a cleaner and greener Bahrain, such as previous visits to some beaches where a total of 3000 bags of garbage were collected, and other beaches where more than 400 trees were planted.
"Through the Treasure Hunt, we aim to raise the awareness of the people in Bahrain about environmental problems such as water shortages, pollution, reclamation of land and its effect on marine life, beach pollution, and desertification, to name a few" explained Amer Ahmed, Public Affairs & Communication Manager, The Coca-Cola Export Corporation - Bahrain.
"Coca Cola (Bahrain) is deeply committed towards its social responsibilities. Protecting the environment is an issue we take very seriously and actively encourage the same commitment from our customers, employees and suppliers," Ahmed concluded.
Mr. Zakariya Khonji, Public Relations and Environment Media Head, the Commission, thanked Coca Cola for their continuous support "I applaud Coca Cola for their initiative in environmental awareness and education, and the key role they are playing in changing the environmental behaviour of the community. As a leading company, they exemplify corporate responsibility."
"It is very important to educate Bahrain on recycling as we have not yet reached the optimum level of consciousness in recycling and reusing," Khonji added.
"Five thousand years ago, Bahrain was an amazing oasis with more than 1.5 million palm trees in the midst of an extraordinarily dry environment, making it a marvel! Let's try to make Bahrain 'The Island of a million palm trees' once again!" Mr. Khonji urged.
"It gives me immense pride to organize this event which is meant to enhance environment consciousness among all sections of Bahrain. A big change can happen only when everyone is involved closely and everyone feels it from within. Treasure Hunt, attempts to reach out to everyone in Bahrain through a series of interesting workshops and competitions that we conduct even before the main day." explained Zahra'a Taher, Managing Director, EVENTSCOM.
"In the past, the participation has been very encouraging and we hope to be even more involving, this year." Taher added.
Teams will simultaneously be competing to solve clues, leading them along a pre-determined map route to a wide spectrum of locations, whilst being monitored by Traffic Police to ensure they adhere to the laws of the road and speed limits.
